So... if you serve at PVC and somehow missed Volunteer Appreciation Night, I'm sure you know by now HOW MUCH you missed out. We had an amazing night of food and folly. It was great seeing so many of you there and I hate that some of you weren't able to come.
Well, the staff put together some... entertainment... for the night. Here's B-Hodge and I's contribution:

Kim and I got a Wii last year and really dig it. I have to be honest... I rock pretty freakin' hard at tennis.
I'm pretty sure Kim enjoys creating Mi's for everyone more than actually playing the game... unless it's the rowing mini-game on Mario Party.
Make your own Mi here... it'll change the way others see you.Sunday, February 24, 2008

So Kim and I don't know the sex of our child. I'm so excited to not know until the birth. Inevitably, we disagree on the what we think the sex will be. She thinks it's a girl, I think it's a boy. No surprises there.
We've discussed names and are set if we have a boy... we've got the girls name narrowed down to a couple.
I believe I've found an omen.

0 comments Posted by Derrick Logan at Wednesday, February 20, 2008- I'm hanging out with Greg, Pete, and Sean the next couple days at C3. I'm looking forward to taking in the festivities tomorrow. In addition to hearing from a wide variety of keynotes, I'm looking forward to seeing the creative elements that Fellowship Church uses in their worship services. These guys spare no expense in visually connecting people. We can learn a lot from them.
- I'm missing Kim. We're about 6-10 weeks from being parents which is blowing my mind. It's been cool how the pregnancy has brought us closer together. I can't wait 'til the end of April!
- Just found out that Jerrod and Niki are expecting (my brother and his wife)! It's so crazy to think that by September all three of us kids will be parents. Life happens fast.
- Fellowship Church is in Grapevine, TX. About 15 years ago, my family and I moved from Grapevine to the Phoenix area. It's crazy seeing how much the town's changed and grown during that time. It'd be fun to drive around and try to find our old home and school.
- I got to hang out with Andy Frank some this week. He lead worship for a leadership conference in Scottsdale and asked me to join him. It was fun hanging out with him and some of the guys from CCV and hope to do it again soon.
- Traveling is exhausting... think I might try to catch a nap before the Suns stick it to the Lakers in Shaq's debut. ...I'm not a big fan of the trade they made but you can't ignore the buzz that this move has created. There's a energy around this team that wasn't there before. Although I think we could've gotten more for Marion, I'll be the first to recant if we win the championship. Okay... off to rest...

Our good friends, Love and Eddie Breaux, recently moved to Japan. He always had a blast hangin with these guys... mostly playin Wii and Madden... Eddie owns me in that game. Most of the nights they came, Elijah came too. This kid's a pretty cool cat and can punch harder than any 5 year-old I've ever met. In addition to his super-human strength, Spiderman-like moves, and Optimus Prime intimidation, the kid can bust a move.
Check it...
This kinda stuff would happen almost every night they came over.
Come back Breaux's!!!

Kim's dad, Bill Rackley, was diagnosed with cancer in December.
He's had a throat issues for the past few years but nothing this serious. It's a very small amount of cancer. In fact, a few weeks ago they told him that they thought it was gone. He started a very non-aggressive form of chemotherapy last week and it was discovered that there is still a small amount of cancer as well as small amount of skin cancer on his forehead. The cancer in his throat is a form of skin cancer so the spot on his head wasn't a complete surprise. Both are very treatable and, as I mention, the treatments have started.
Dad's been handling it like a champ. Having been a lifelong smoker we feel very fortunate that this is the worst health scare we've had. He's cut back a great deal the past couple years, even quitting for several months at a time. When the problems in his throat first started a few years ago, God used it as an opportunity to move in his heart in a big way. Having been out of church for a number of years, he began going again. Now he's reading the bible everyday and seeking the Lord. It's great to go over there and discuss passages with him and help answer questions he has. He's not the same guy he was a few years ago.
Kim and Mom have be champs in their own right. Kim is an only child; her and her parents are very, very close. I know this is very tough for both of them but without blinking for a second, they're both believing God for the best.
We'd greatly appreciate your prayers during this time. God is good but we can always use a little more peace and assurance.

My hat's off to Eli Manning and the New York Giants for pulling off the greatest upset in Super Bowl history!
Kim and I ended up watching the game alone tonight but had a blast. We screamed like crazy when Eli hit Plaxico in the corner of the end zone... I found myself yelling "EAT IT! EAT IT!" when Brady got sacked on their last possession... it was awesome!
Eli escaped a inescapable sack and hit David Tyree over the middle for the most incredible play I've ever seen in the Super Bowl... Tyree had to hold the ball against his helmet to maintain possession.
It's great seeing the team that no one gave a chance pull through for victory.
It's also good to see cheaters get put in their place. Early this year, the Patriots were fined heavily and penalized draft picks for video taping an opponent during their practice, trying to steal signals. Mike Vrabel, a linebacker for the Patriots, is pretty stinkin dirty player too. I can't imagine a more painful loss for an undefeated team than to loose in the Super Bowl.
So sorry, Pats.
That just happened.
[it will be interesting to see if any newspapers steel my headline!]
Life is just happening way too fast. I've got A TON I want to blog about but can't find any time. Here are a few quick thoughts...
- God's doing some incredible things in my father-in law's life. I can't wait to write more about it.
- My wife has a baby in her! I can't believe that I'll be a dad in less than three months! We're so excited! It's still impossible to believe!
- Hawaii was awesome! I came away with some great notes from the conference which I'll share here soon.
- Since I had the weekend off, I went up to CCV this morning and heard John Maxwell speak. Great communicator and walked away with some good stuff... yes, I'll share it here.
- Got to see Andy lead worship today. I'm so happy to have him as a friend and supporter. It was cool to chat with Gary too. Those two guys have had a big hand in my development.
- The freakin Super Bowl is happening 7.3 miles from me! I'm bummed that I wasn't around last week to take in any festivities. It's crazy to think that the biggest thing happening on earth today is taking place in my backyard. It would've been cool to be at the game... $6K/ticket is slightly out of my budget.
- Jordin Sparks just started singing the National Anthem... better jet... I NEED MORE TIME!

With the weekend off, Kim and I decided to attend Saturday night... which is a great time to go to church! Pete did a great job preping the team for the weekend. It was obvious that they were ready going into service on Saturday. A big thanks for Monty for coming out again; he did a great job leading worship.
Greg hit it out of the park this weekend, talking about the reliability of scripture and weighing it against the writings of other faiths. It's amazing to see the consistancy of the Bible!
